This print marks my first exploration of Braille. As Braille relies on touch, I was immediately drawn to the idea of visually representing a concept related to perception. The acronym WYSIWYG, which stands for ‚What You See Is What You Get‘ in desktop publishing, seemed like a fitting starting point. Since WYSIWYG is based on sight, I wanted to flip the concept onto the tactile sense, creating ‚WYFIWYG‘ – What You Feel Is What You Get

What You Feel Is What You Get

Initially, I found it ironic to present this tactile concept behind glass, as a framed print. However, I soon realized a deeper layer of meaning. The English words ‚feel‘ and ‚get‘ offer a rich ambiguity. ‚Feel‘ refers to both physical sensation and emotion, while ‚get‘ can mean both to acquire something and to understand. In this context, WYFIWYG also represents the emotional understanding that we gain through experience. This is a paradox, as we often prioritize logic over emotion. Yet, our emotions are a constant part of our experience and help us connect with the world on a deeper level. This is particularly true for highly sensitive individuals like myself.
